Acoustic Equipment

The range of acoustic equipment offered by MacArtney A/S includes side scan sonar and sub bottom profiler systems from EdgeTech, scanning sonars, multibeam surveillance sonars and altimeters from Kongsberg Mesotech Ltd. and the high frequency DIDSON sonar from Sound Metrics.

With these products being approved by the main survey contractors, defence industries and the oceanographic institutes we can offer system solutions for survey- and oceanograpgic work where we also supply the towcables, subsea terminations, winches, sliprings and in some situations our fiber optic multiplexers in addition. 

The DIDSON system sets new standards for imaging sonar. DIDSON gives near video quality images for inspection and identification of objects underwater.

The standard DIDSON operates at two frequencies (1.8 MHz and 1.1 MHz) and provides images of objects from 1 metre to over 30 metres in range. DIDSON is small in size and requires only 30 watts at 24Vdc.

EdgeTech manufactures a line of deep water Hydrographic Survey Systems. A system consists of a side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, digital link, surface interface, and a surface data display processor. A number of additional options may be integrated on to the system as needed.

The 4200 “chirp” and multi pulse SSS is the preferred survey tool in many parts of the world and is the most sold side scan sonar system. The 4600 system is a new swath bathymetry SSS and the 4700 is a very high resolution sonar system, combining multi pulse and dynamically focusing techniques.

The flexibility offered by different EdgeTech sub-bottom profilers will provide the customers with the best in underwater acoustic imaging. From shallow water 3100-P and 3200-XS systems to the 2400-DSS and 2200-M deep water systems they offer frequencies from 0.5 kHz to 24 kHz in Full Spectrum mode (chirp). Systems for hull-mounting are also available.
